I don’t know if I have mentioned this to you before, but I am a prophetess. I be propheseeing things before they happen all the time. Recently, I was walking down the street wondering who was more famous at the time that “I’ll Take Her” was released- Ill Al Scratch or Brian McKnight, who sang the hook. Next thing you know, I look up and see a billboard touting McKnight’s new show.

I took that as a sign for “McKnight for the win”, regarding my previous thoughts.

The Brian McKnight Show is a weekly one-hour entertainment showcase launching on September 21st. While a few late night shows have, no one has yet to match the success of Arsenio Hall in the “urban” (ahem)market. However, it seems like the soul singer may have a shot. Instead of sticking to the traditional talk show studio setup, McKnight’s series will be filmed in various locations in and around Los Angeles. Segments will include “Brian’s Big Break,” which will give new artists an opportunity to shine, “What’s Hot,” spotlighting the newest trends in electronics, fashion and pop culture and “The Round Table,” featuring celebs, comedians and other special guests discussing a variety of topics.

I’m looking forward to the show because I think it will bring a needed touch of class to television, in the vein of Nat King Cole’s old show and other variety showcases from our parents’ younger days. Brian McKnight is an elegant brother and after watching Flavor Flav coon about television for the past 5 years, I think it’s high time for a dignified representative on the airwaves.

Also cool: viewers will have the opportunity to go online and select the songs McKnight performs and the questions he asks his guests. Make sure you check out the Brian McKnight Show on September 21st, featuring none other than STEVIE WONDER as his first guest!

Now that I’m in a Brian McKnight mood, here’s the song I will be requesting for the show: “Love Is”, a duet with Vanessa Williams (which was featured on an episode of 90210, but don’t ask me why I remember that).

We complain about the dearth of television shows with us in a respectable light, so we have to make sure that we DO support those that try and get it right! Make sure you tune in on September 21st for the debut of the Brian McKnight Show.
